GREENFIELD, Iowa (Gray TV Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – With nearly one third of Iowa’s counties suffering damages from Tuesday’s storms, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking for federal help with the recovery and cleanup.

Tuesday’s storm killed four people in Greenfield and injured at least three dozen more, according to local and state authorities.

Wednesday, the governor issued a state disaster declaration for 17 counties because of the widespread storm damage. That declaration includes: Black Hawk, Buena Vista, Butler, Cedar, Clinton, Dubuque, Fayette, Franklin, Hancock, Humboldt, Iowa, Jackson, Mills, Muscatine, O’Brien, Polk and Story Counties.

That followed a separate state disaster declaration that the governor issued Tuesday night hours after the storms hit. That declaration covered 15 counties including: Adair, Adams, Cass, Clay, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Kossuth, Marshall, Montgomery, Page, Palo Alto, Pottawattamie, Tama, and Warren Counties.
