CHARLOTTE — Improperly discarded smoking materials caused a home to catch on fire in west Charlotte early Sunday morning, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

Firefighters said they responded to the incident around 6 a.m. just off Bullard Street in the Westerly Hills Neighborhood.

Heavy flames and smoke were observed coming from the home, according to firefighters.

It took 30 firefighters and 23 minutes to get the fire under control.

One person was treated at the scene before being released. However, two adults and one child were displaced, according to firefighters.

An investigation revealed that the fire occurred on the front porch of the home due to improperly discarded smoking materials.

It caused $175,000 in damages to the home, according to firefighters.
