The exemption relates to damage to certain types of properties as a result of rain and flooding that started on April 26.

AUSTIN, Texas — If you own property in Travis County that was damaged during heavy rains and flooding this spring, you could be eligible for a temporary disaster-related exemption to help lower your property taxes.

According to the Travis County Appraisal District (TCAD), property owners who suffered damage to buildings, mobile homes or “business personal property” due to storms that began on April 26 could be eligible for the break on their 2024 property taxes.

TCAD said Tax Code Section 11.35 “allows a chief appraiser to determine if a property qualifies for a temporary exemption based on a damage assessment rating of Level I, II, III, or IV.” To qualify, a property must have suffered damage that totals a minimum of 15% of its improvement value.
