Two World War II veterans honored [Video]

BIDWELL, Ohio. (WSAZ) – Two Ohio veterans were honored Monday.

Abbyshire Place, an Optalis & Rehabilitation Center, honored two clients who served in the United States military.

U.S. Army Veteran Fleming Young Jr., who’s 105, was among the honorees.

Young served in the U.S. Army as a tank driver.

Carol Mayes, Young’s daughter, was thrilled to watch her father receive the recognition.

Mayes said her dad began sharing more stories from his time in the service in his later years.

“He tells us things about being on the ship in Sipiam and Guam,” Mayes said.

Wendell Chapman, 98, was also honored.

Chapman said the days of World War II are still fresh in his mind.

“When you see those artillery shells coming in and bombs … I guarantee you will pray like you’ve never prayed before,” Chapman said.
