Understanding The Link Between Concussions And Long-Term Brain Health From An Expert [Video]

Categories
Traumatic Brain Injuries

Brain concussions are crucial to identify and treat appropriately because they may affect long-term brain health. Although concussions are often considered mild traumatic brain injuries, recurrent or severe concussions can have detrimental long-term effects. To prevent further damage and promote healing, it’s essential to receive the correct diagnosis, rest, and gradually resume activities. Failure to promptly treat concussions may increase the risk of long-term cognitive deficits, such as memory loss, concentration issues, and mood swings.

Additionally, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive degenerative brain condition, has been linked to repeated concussions. Preserving long-term brain health and reducing the risk of permanent damage requires concussion prevention methods, including safety protocols and wearing helmets during sports activities.
