At least three people have been killed and six are missing after an explosion in northern Italy’s Apennine Mountains.
A fire broke out earlier today at the Bargi hydroelectric power plant, 43 miles from the city of Bologna.
Footage showed smoke rising from the facility belonging to the energy giant Enel shortly after the blast.
Firefighters have rescued three of the injured and continue to search the scene at the Suviana Lake.
Marco Masinara, the mayor of the nearby town of Camugnano, confirmed that thebodies of three people have been recovered.
He said four people are still missing, while three were ‘badly hurt’ and rushed to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the prefect of Bologna, Attilio Visconti, said the fire broke out when a turbine exploded on the eight floor below the surface, causing the floor below to become flooded.
