University of Alaska Anchorage explores possibility of new hockey arena | Homepage [Video]

At the Avis Alaska Sports Complex on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus, the community is talking all about the possibility of the Seawolves getting a new and improved home.

One player is enjoying the idea.

“In terms of Division I hockey and a Division I facility, I think this is kind of need to upgrade it,” says Conor Cole, forward on the UAA hockey team.

Just four years ago, the hockey program was cut. The community board raised $3 million to bring the program back.

This season was the first time in the last five years that the Seawolves claimed a 4 to 2 victory during the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup.

“You know, both hockey, gymnastics, as well as our ski programs and really been excited over the last two seasons with just what the rebirth of Seawolves hockey has brought,” explained Ryan Buchholdt, Vice Chancellor of Administration Services at UAA.
