Upstate city focusing on pedestrian safety before football season [Video]

An Upstate city is focusing on improving pedestrian safety ahead of a university’s inaugural football season. Anderson City Council on Monday night approved a nearly $400,000 contract to build a sidewalk from the entrance of Anderson University on Calhoun Street to the football field’s gate along U.S. Highway Business 29. “As we’ve grown as an institution over the past few years, the need for an increased pedestrian connector has grown more and more,” said Charlie Dickerson, the university’s associate vice president of facilities and campus safety. Anderson city officials said the project will be paid for from taxes they receive from people staying at hotels and short-term rentals within the city.
