US has high-level gaps in response plan to an asteroid hitting Earth: officials [Video]

NASA presented a hypothetical scenario to a group of nearly 100 government representatives warning them that if an asteroid has a 72% chance of striking Earth in 14 years, we might not be adequately prepared for it.

The scenario was created by the Planetary Defense Coordination Office, who disclosed they found their plan to combat an asteroid hurtling toward Earth had several “high-level gaps,” according to a report from USA TODAY.

According to the NASA slide presentation, space officials have “limited readiness to quickly implement needed space missions,” and methods to keep the public informed about a looming disaster are not fully developed.
