Vintage WWII aircraft finds its way to Hagerstown Aviation Museum [Video]

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — The western Maryland city revels in its legacy building aircraft.

Fairchild Industries had a longstanding presence in the region, and this week the Hagerstown Aviation Museum welcomed visitors to see a proud product of those glory days in manufacturing planes during World War II.

The XNQ aircraft was built more than 50 years ago and has now returned to the place of its creation. The XNQ personifies its ties to wartime manufacturing.

“Over all those years they built 50,000 airplanes here in Hagerstown,” John Seburn, executive director of the museum, said. “So there are a lot of people here in this community that used to build airplanes and work on them.”

Coming out of World War II, the XNQ was billed as a “next generation” aircraft.
