Waterville mural spreading message of hope for Earth Day | Local News [Video]

WATERVILLE — As many turn to various clean up efforts for earth day, members of the Waterville community and the Maine Citizens’ Climate Lobby came together to create a mural that sends a message of hope for the future of the planet. 

The new mural was front and center this Earth Day at the Paul J. Schupf Art Center in Downtown Waterville. 

“We worked with the Citizens’ Climate Lobby and artist Lucky Platt to create a ‘crankie,’ which is a big scroll drawing that moves,” said Serena Sanborn, Manager of Outreach and Community Partnerships for Waterville Creates. 

The mural was inspired by a poem Cynthia Stancioff that shares a story of how humans have negatively impacted the planet but ends with a message of hope. Stancioff is the co-chair of the Mid-Maine Citizens’ Climate Lobby chapter. 

“She wrote this very hopeful poem about earth day and how humans could really come together …
