SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Woodbury County Law Enforcement Center Authority voted Tuesday afternoon to pick an insurance carrier for the county’s new jail project. But the county’s budget director says the county doesn’t have the money to pay for policy in its current budget.

Officials say the policy would cost about $177,000 each year in insurance premiums, with a deductible between $100,000 and $250,000 depending on the incident, like fires and tornadoes.

The cost became a sticking point Tuesday, when Woodbury County’s Budget Director Dennis Butler said the money for the premium wasn’t in the budget.

Insurance officials said the insurance policy would be in the Authority’s name since they own the building until the bond is paid off, but the county would pay the cost.
