We need to help: Advocates say to look for, report signs of child abuse over summer [Video]

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – For many kids, summer is a fun time to be out of school. But for others, it can lead to higher risks of abuse with fewer resources to turn to while stuck at home. So, during this time of year, police and advocates want everyone to step up and know the warning signs to report any child in danger.

For 20 years, Detective Danelle Williams has been on the frontlines with Kansas City Police saving children from abuse and neglect. This work is personal for her.

“My mom was in an abusive relationship when I grew up,” Detective Williams explained. “Then I was abused as a child, and I just want to give back and let people know that you can come out of it.”

She uses that personal connection to help kids in horrifying situations.
