Wear Orange Weekend kicks off in Fayetteville [Video]

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark (KNWA/KFTA) — Organizations and volunteers will come together to host a Wear Orange event at 40 S Willow Avenue in Fayetteville on June 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.

The event was planned for Wear Orange Weekend and National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Volunteers come from Arkansas Moms Demand Action in collaboration with the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.

The event aims to commemorate the lives affected by gun violence and amplify efforts for gun violence prevention nationwide.

Originating on June 2, 2015, in remembrance of Hadiya Pendleton’s 18th birthday, Wear Orange began as a tribute by Chicago teenagers to Pendleton, who died at 15 of gun violence.
