West Haven considers stricter enforcement for dog owners on beaches [Video]

WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Concerns are increasing over the lack of compliance among dog owners with current regulations on beaches and boardwalks.

City Counselor, Melli Garthwait has proposed stricter measures to address these issues, aiming to enhance wildlife safety and obtain public order.

Currently, regulations mandate that dogs must be leashed while on the boardwalks and are prohibited from accessing the sandy areas and bird sanctuaries.

Despite these rules, some dog owners have been observed as disregarding them.

Garthwait’s proposal includes the introduction of fines as a deterrent for non-compliance.

She suggests a $100 fine for owners who fail to leash their dogs on the boardwalks or allow them onto the beaches.

Additionally, a more substantial fine of $250 is proposed for those who bring their dogs onto the sandy beaches or into bird sanctuaries.
