Windham nonprofit offers hope & healing for horses | News [Video]

WINDHAM/ORRINGTON--Horses found in less than ideal living conditions are getting a new lease on life thanks to a rescue and rehabilitation center in Windham.

“The horses that are here are the horses that have fallen through the cracks for a variety of reasons,” explained Peg Keyser, advancement director at the MSSPA.

When horses are neglected, abused or found to be living in unfavorable conditions, law enforcement and local animal control officers will bring them here to the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals in Windham.

“We rescue, rehabilitate and ideally re-home horses, donkeys and mules,” said Keyser.

Horses just like this Quarter Horse Cross named Cherry.

“When she came in her feet were overgrown,” said Jeff Greenleaf. “She had no boots or shoes for her feet and she was having a hard time walking.”
