Wiregrass Public Safety Center providing career training for teens [Video]

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – The Wiregrass Public Safety Center is giving high schoolers a chance to learn about a future career in public safety.

The center has a safety academy to give 16-18 year olds an inside look into public safety careers. Some of those careers include police officers, firefighters and dispatchers.

For two weeks, students are required to go through safety lectures and intense, hands-on simulation training.

While it is a daunting process for the students and the staff, the safety academy is proud to produce future public safety workers.

“For some, this is a career, but ultimately it’s a calling. This is a difficult job. You are a public servant,” said Jason Wright, the facility manager at the Wiregrass Public Safety Center. “It’s very hot, it’s very physical, they are tired when they leave.
