With team at the border, Mass. Gov. Healey keeps pressure on Congress to fix immigration [Video]

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey kept up her two-front effort on the state’s migrant crisis on Wednesday, repeating a familiar call for Congress to step in to deliver relief.

While the Bay State continues its efforts to house new arrivals and help them find jobs, “Congress still needs to act on comprehensive immigration reform, as well as funding for states like Massachusetts,” the Democratic governor told reporters on Wednesday at the State House.

Healey’s comments came as a team of five administration officials, led by state Emergency Assistance Director Gen. Scott Rice, were wrapping up a trip to the southern border aimed at educating federal officials and others on the state’s immigration challenges.

Healey didn’t offer specific comment on the status of those efforts, but she did say that the administration’s team was charged with making clear that “we have reached capacity here. We don’t have housing available right now.”
