Woman who gave birth to son while father died en-route to hospital speaks out [Video]

DENVER (KDVR) — The woman who gave birth to a son in the hospital while the father of her baby died en route is speaking out.

Kyli DeFreese said she was told in the hospital that her baby’s father, Bobby Murphy, had died while riding his motorcycle to be with her during delivery.

Denver police say Murphy’s crash happened at East 14th Avenue and North Milwaukee Street late Monday morning. Traffic investigators say a roll-off dump truck was making a left turn, and Murphy failed to avoid the truck.

“I’m lost right now. Really, really lost,” said DeFreese, fighting back tears.

Early Monday afternoon, DeFreese gave birth to Esko Dante Murphy. He remains in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Rose Medical Center.

Both mother and son are doing fine, physically. Mentally and spiritually, they are heartbroken.

“I just wanted him to be remembered,” DeFreese said of Murphy. “He was such a righteous person.”
