Worker dies after construction accident with forklift at high school [Video]

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) – A construction worker in Oregon has died following an accident on the job at Portland’s Benson Polytechnic High School.

According to Portland Fire and Rescue, crews responded to reports of an accident at the high school at about 3 p.m. last Thursday.

The worker, identified by Andersen Construction as Samantha “Sam” Deschenes, was taken to the hospital but she ended up succumbing to her injuries on Saturday.

Deschenes was a member of Ironworkers Local 29 for the last three years and had been working on the high school project for the past year.

“It is with great sorrow that we confirm the loss of one of our members due to injuries sustained in a job site accident,” Ironworkers 29 representatives said.

Andersen Construction said work has been suspended at the job site after Deschenes’ death.
