Worker injured while trying to restart SWB pumps [Video]

Sewerage and Water Board employees were late to switch on pumps following a power outage Tuesday night because they were tending to an employee who was injured during that process.

Sewerage and Water Board executive director Ghassan Korgan says the Claiborne Plant lost power around 7 p.m. after a mylar balloon struck an Entergy power line, causing a power outage that sent of the SWB’s pumps offline. According to Korban, an operator that was positioned at the Claiborne station started the protocol to get the pumps back online. Korban says during that protocol, the operator suffered a serious unspecified injury.

Korban sayss another operator from another location came to the pumping station to aid the other employee to turn the pumps back on, but he found his coworker and began to administer aid. The second operator called 911 and other SWB officials for assistance.
