A young Adelaide footballer has defied the odds to return to the sport he loves after a life-altering accident left him paralysed from the waist down.

Jake Bilsborow, 21, spent weeks in hospital and three months in rehabilitation after a cliff-jumping incident in 2021.

Bilsborow said it was very hard to come to terms with his injuries. 

He had been a promising underage footballer for Sturt Football Club who dreamed of representing the club at the league level.

“You start to actually realise that this is what your life has become now, and it was obviously very hard for me to stomach that,” he said.

“It was hard to get over the first couple of years missing the game and missing all the camaraderie and everything that comes with footy.”
