OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha nonprofit is teaming up with Goodwill, both working to have a violence-free summer.
Every year, YouTurn has a number of fun events on its north Omaha campus to promote its message of non-violence and safety while having a good time. This year, YouTurn is taking its Safe Summer Kickoff to a larger stage: the Riverfront Performance Pavilion on the Gene Leahy Mall.
“With school out, youth have a lot of idle time, so being able to do that here in this space where they’re going to come and congregate [is great],” said Stewart Giddings with YouTurn. “They’re going to have a lot of time on their hands and maybe not have structured activity, so being able to do that here gives them that and provides them an opportunity for activities here, in addition to all of what Gene Leahy already has in place.”
