Yuma man who lost arm in freak accident brings inspiration [Video]

YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — It was just another work day for 19-year-old Blake Thomas when a freak accident forced him to take drastic measures to save his own life.

“Well I am either going to lose my arm or my head is going to get cut off so I chose the arm,” said Thomas.

The third Wednesday of every May marks National Trauma Survivors Day, and this year, he’s celebrating his wins and sharing his story with others.

Thomas was working at his family’s construction company in Yuma on July 17 when he lost his right arm.

“While I was working inside the conveyor belt clearing the rocks away the belt was turned on and I had to make a split decision,” he said.

It was at that point that he said his Boy Scouts training kicked in.
