Police tried to stop the man twice, but he drove off, even driving the wrong way on I-196. He later drove back to the initial scene and crashed into a townhome.
HOLLAND, Michigan — A man was arrested after a domestic assault situation turned into a police chase and ended in a crash, the Holland Department of Public Safety said.
Police came to a townhome in the Meadow Lanes complex on Ramblewood Court on Saturday just before 9:30 p.m., officers say. There, a 40-year-old Holland woman told police her boyfriend, a 31-year-old Holland man, assaulted her.
Officers found his car parked on Cabill Drive, off M-40. When police tried to approach the man, he drove off. He turned onto West I-196 as officers followed, police said.
The suspect used an “authorized vehicle only” turn lane to turn onto eastbound I-196, but began driving the wrong way. Police stopped the pursuit for the safety of other drivers.
