Employees, others push for Hyundai unionization [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Employees of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, along with activists and local faith leaders, met Monday night to voice support for HMMA workers who are trying to join the United Auto Workers union.

The Moral Monday Mass Meeting was held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William Barber with the Poor People’s campaign rallied the crowd in the hopes of convincing workers at Montgomery’s Hyundai plant to unionize.

“Right now, workers are looking for a way to make sure that they can afford to raise a family, to buy a house, to buy the goods that they produce in the case of auto workers,” Barber said.

One HMMA employee in attendance was Robert Strozer, who has worked at he plant since it opened in 2005. He said one major problem workers see is a lack of accommodations for illnesses and injuries.
