Maricopa County deputy injured in Sun City confrontation [Video]

The deputy was taken to a hospital with injuries to his knees, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office officials said.

SUN CITY, Ariz. — A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured Friday after responding to a call about a possibly suicidal subject.

The deputy was able to calm the person down when he arrived at the scene, near Bell Road and 99th Avenue, and was working on getting the person some resources and assistance.

“The man suddenly began to attack the deputy causing a physical confrontation,” a MCSO spokesperson said.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, officials said. It appears the deputy hurt his knees during the confrontation but “nothing serious for either,” officials said.

It is unclear what charges, if any, the person is facing.
