Mets top prospect could require surgery after setback [Video]

NEW YORK — As the Mets season continues to flounder, fans increasingly look to the future for signs of hope.

On Tuesday, before the Mets lost both games in the doubleheader against the Dodgers, president of baseball operations David Stearns provided bad news regarding the team’s No. 1 prospect Jett Williams. The 5-foot-7 infielder, who was placed on the seven-day IL with a wrist injury on April 29, has not gotten better.

Williams recently received a second cortisone shot on the wrist, but if he continues to experience soreness, the Mets will “look at” surgery as an option, Stearns revealed to media members at Citi Field.

This explains his poor start with Double-A Binghamton this season. That’s where in 11 games, he went 7-for-39 (.180 batting average) with three doubles and a triple.
