Steel cylinder rolls from construction site, crushes woman in Pittsburgh [Video]

PITTSBURGH (WJW) – A woman has died after being hit in the head by a large steel cylindrical drum that broke free from a nearby construction site on Friday.

According to a press release from the city of Pittsburgh, police and EMS responded to the 3700 block of Terrace Street at about 10:40 a.m. after it was reported that a woman had a head injury near the Petersen Events Center.

According to the release, medics at the scene found the woman with “significant, grave injuries to her head.”

She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:45 a.m.

According to the release, witnesses said the victim was walking with colleagues when she was hit. The steel cylinder had rolled down a hill in the construction site before going through construction fencing and hitting her on the sidewalk.
