Footage of a country bridge shows a navy Mazda ute driving over it, closely followed by a silver Toyota Corolla sedan.
The early-2000s sedan speeds up towards the Mazda BT-50 as the bridge ends, getting so close its brake lights flash.
Shortly after these movements were captured on CCTV, the ute lost control on a bend and hit a tree in Wardell, south of Ballina. Its 36-year-old driver, Mark Dodds and his passengers, Sophie-Lee Fullagar, 24, Benjamin Watego, 50, and James Doherty, 42, were killed.
Nearly three months after the crash, police are treating the tragedy as a homicide investigation.
